I’m a Scottish reeling and ceilidh caller based in Buckinghamshire. I call everything from relaxed barn dances, wedding ceilidhs and birthday parties to large black-tie reeling balls, always with the aim of making the dancing enjoyable, straightforward and welcoming.

Calling

I’ve called at more than 800 events, working with complete beginners as well as experienced reelers. I’ve called at venues including Buckingham Palace, Hampton Court Palace and the Houses of Parliament, and I’m equally happy working with recorded music or alongside a live band.

What I enjoy most is getting a room dancing. At a barn dance or ceilidh that may mean teaching everything from scratch and keeping things relaxed and informal. At a formal reeling ball, it may mean giving experienced dancers just enough guidance to keep the evening moving without getting in their way.

Whether I’m calling a wedding ceilidh for people who have never danced before or a large formal ball for experienced reelers, the aim is much the same: good music, clear calling and a dance floor full of people enjoying themselves.

Events & Teaching

I also organise several of my own events. I founded The Reel Thing Ball and The Spring Fling Ball, and I run the twice-yearly Young Gathering for Year 11 to Year 13 students, helping introduce a new generation to Scottish reeling.

From 2018 to 2024 I chaired London Reels and produced its series of YouTube tutorials covering the main Scottish reels. I still make teaching videos and animations, as well as running private lessons for groups preparing for balls.
