Private Tuition / Reeling Lessons

I offer private reeling tuition for groups preparing to attend Scottish balls and other reeling events where guests are expected to know the dances.

At ceilidhs, and at many private events where I am booked as the caller, I can teach and call the dances on the night, so no previous experience is necessary. Proper reeling balls are different. At events such as the Royal Caledonian Ball in London, and at many of the Scottish balls held over the summer months, there may be little or no instruction on the night and guests are generally expected to know the dances.

For anyone planning to attend one of these events, a practice session beforehand can make an enormous difference. It gives you the chance to learn the main reels properly, understand the formations and arrive feeling much more confident about joining in.

I provide tailored teaching for groups of at least eight people and can travel to any suitable venue in London or beyond. A single three-hour session is usually enough to cover the main reels you are likely to encounter.

There are fewer than ten mainstream reels that regularly appear at these events, so it is perfectly possible to become familiar with the dances in a relatively short time.
