I call private reeling parties for birthdays, Burns Night celebrations, dinner dances and other occasions where Scottish reeling is the main part of the evening.

These events can range from relaxed parties with a mixture of experienced and less experienced dancers to formal black-tie evenings where most of the guests already know the reels.

How it Works

I tailor the calling to the people in the room. If guests know the dances well, I keep the interruptions to a minimum and simply make sure everyone knows what is coming next. If some people are less experienced, I can give a quick walkthrough before the music starts and continue calling where necessary. The programme can be planned in advance or adjusted on the night depending on how the evening is going.

Music

I can work solo using high-quality recorded music through my own PA system, or alongside a live Scottish dance band.

I regularly work with bands including Supergrouse and The Frank Reid Band, and can recommend musicians to suit the size and style of your event.

Reeling or Ceilidh?

If most of your guests are complete beginners and you are looking for something very informal, a ceilidh may be the better option.

A private reeling party is generally more suited to an event where at least some of the guests already know the traditional Scottish reels, or where you would like a slightly more formal style of dancing.
