A new series of monthly Scottish reeling evenings, launching in London from February 2026

Reel Thing Wednesdays

As reeling continues to grow, these evenings are about making it more accessible - offering relaxed social dancing alongside clear, optional teaching for anyone who wants it.

They will be held at St Columba’s Church on Pont Street and are designed as enjoyable, midweek social evenings with some optional teaching and practice at the start.

The evenings will be run by John Carver (@JohnTheCaller) of www.reeling.com

Reel Thing Wednesdays are run independently by Reel Thing Events and are not connected with London Reels.

How a typical evening will run

  • Doors open 6.45pm

  • Teaching & Recap (7.00 - 8.15pm)
    An optional, relaxed warm-up for anyone who would like a recap before the social dancing begins.
    This session is designed to refresh a small number of mainstream reels and help everyone feel confident and comfortable for the evening ahead.
    You are very welcome to join - or simply arrive later if you prefer

  • The Social (8.15 - 10.30pm)
    The main focus of the evening.
    Enjoy a continuous run of popular mainstream reels in a friendly, social atmosphere.

The dancing will always be drawn from the following set of popular mainstream reels. We won’t be able to dance all of them every week, but no others will be added. For tutorials, visit www.reeling.com/learn

You don’t need to be an expert dancer. The aim is simply a fun, well-run evening of dancing

  • When: Monthly, on Wednesdays

  • Time: 7-10:30pm (doors open 6.45pm)

  • Where: St Columba’s Church, Pont Street, London, SW1X 0BD

  • Price: £14 (£12 with advance booking code: reelthing)

  • Entry: No queuing - admission by online ticket only

  • Numbers: Capped to ensure plenty of space

  • Drinks: Wine, soft drinks, and nibbles included
